What is self care?
At Balmy, we believe self care is taking time to do the things you want to do, that make you feel good. Not driven by selfishness. But by the need to be able to take time for yourself to give more of yourself in life generally. In your relationships with loved ones, in your work, in your community. Whilst many of us are capable of hiding our worries and fears, we are less attentive and tolerant of others, and less able to perform at our highest potential if we are exhausted, emotionally bereft, distracted or anxious.
Self care can entail a countless number of things – ultimately it is an entirely personal choice.
For you it may mean taking a relaxing bath, for another person it might be reading a book, or listening to a podcast.
Or it might mean going shopping, or sweating it out at the gym.
It might be meditating, or catching up with your friends.
It might be taking the dog for a walk, or tucking in to a gigantic bar of chocolate.
Your chosen form of self care can vary from day to day and from week to week, depending on your mood, what kind of day you’ve been having or the weather.
Self care is a journey without an end – there’s never a moment of self actualisation where it is no longer needed. We need to put the time in every day for ourselves.
And it’s never too late to start. The need for self care is as relevant at 80 as it is at 18.
There are no judgements here about what constitutes self care. Only that you have to determine for yourself what makes you feel good and it should be something you do for yourself – not for others.
And if you decide your chosen form of self care involves filling your home with incredible fragrances and indulging in sustainable, luxurious natural skin and bodycare, then we’re very happy to serve you.
In the meantime take care of yourself.
